Tell us about your company:
Zest is like Duolingo for cooking. We’re an app that teaches you how to cook!
What inspired you to start your business?
I had the fire department called on me for burning a Digiorno Pizza in my oven. I did not know how to cook and did not know how to change that and so paired up with my future cofounder, the best home cook I knew at the time. He tutored me and, in the process, I came to realize he was running into many of the same difficulties that I was but was further along on his learning journey. We validated that it was not just the two of us and built a team around solving for the opportunity.
What are your proudest achievements so far?
Building an amazing team! I work with an immensely talented group of people and would not be where I am without them.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Focus on finding latent demand in market. What problems exist that are bad enough that people are already spending money to solve it themselves.
Please share a memory or thought about your alma mater:
Northwestern’s Garage was the best and I had a great experience building my own business.
