Tell us about your company:
DOLAN makes the world’s best fitting medical scrubs. We leverage our 20 years design, manufacturing and expertise to create the highest quality and most comfortable scrubs on the market because the 15 million Americans who wear and buy scrubs everyday deserve to feel and look their best. We engineer scrubs for all body types. We offer the widest range of sizes from XXXS-6X, 5 inseam length option and specific fits for body types. We have 4 design patents pending for our curve fit styles.
What inspired you to start your business?
I founded and own DOLAN GROUP, a wholesale fashion company I launched in 2004, which has given me 20 years of experience in fashion design, manufacturing, and product development. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on fit innovation, quality, and inclusivity—long before it became an industry standard. The shift into DOLAN medical scrubs happened during COVID, when we rapidly pivoted into PPE production to support frontline workers. Suddenly, we were in constant contact with doctors, nurses, and hospital teams who needed better protective gear—and that’s when we started seeing the major flaws in existing scrubs. At the same time, my non-profit, The Laundry Truck LA was working alongside street teams and healthcare workers to provide free laundry services in vulnerable communities. We were surrounded by healthcare professionals daily, and the feedback was overwhelming: Scrubs weren’t designed for real bodies. The leading brand was only making scrubs for skinny women, forcing everyone else to squeeze into them, while the legacy brands were focused on cheap commodity product. There was no great, modern, stylish brand for real bodies, both for men & women.
What are your proudest achievements so far?
One of my proudest achievements is that Dolan Scrubs has sold over 100,000 scrubs—all through our direct-to-consumer website. We’ve now expanded into B2B, but the fact that we reached this milestone by selling one scrub at a time over just three short years proves that we found a real gap in the market and are delivering a critical product that healthcare professionals truly needed. Beyond the numbers, what makes me most proud is the impact we’ve had on our customers. We constantly hear heartfelt stories from nurses and doctors who tell us they had tears in their eyes the first time they pulled our scrubs out of the bag and tried them on. Many had never worn scrubs that actually fit them before, and finally feeling comfortable, professional, and confident in what they wear every day is life-changing for them. At the end of the day, healthcare professionals do so much for us, and they deserve to feel good in what they wear. Knowing that we’re making even a small difference in their daily lives is what makes this all worth it.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Look for solutions to problems in areas you love to spend time. This will ensure, you love your day to day, even when it gets challenging, there is always a reason to stick it out. I would also say, test things as cheaply as possible to start.
Please share a memory or thought about your alma mater:
I started my first little company during my sophomore year at UCSB, a greeting card company. I will always remember, making art on the floor of my apartment on Del Playa and then heading to Nordstrom to do these little trunk shows in their gift gallery.
