Meet UCLA alum Alan Smith, Co-Founder of Good Candy

Tell us about your company:
Good Candy is the candy that refuses to compromise—sour gummy bites that taste like your childhood favorites, with 70% less sugar, electrolytes, zero artificial anything, and eye-catching retro packaging that makes you smile before you even open the bag. Founded by three dads who saw a broken candy aisle and built something better, we’re bringing good vibes to the world one bag at a time, because the world doesn’t need more candy—it needs more Good Candy.
What inspired you to start your business?
When my daughter was born, I cleaned up my diet and lifestyle a lot but still had a sweet tooth. A lot of the better for you candy didn’t do it for me, so Good Candy sprouted from that inconvenience..
What are your proudest achievements so far?
Good Candy was the only pre-launch brand selected as one of 25 finalists in 7-Eleven’s “Brands with Heart” emerging brands competition. Over 750 brands applied!
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs:
There will be a lot of “No’s” but just keep swimming.
Please share a memory or thought about your alma mater:
I was co-chair of social while at Anderson, so my fondest memories revolve around all the weekend trips, weeknight dinners and impromptu beach hangs with my classmates.
