What inspired you to start your business?
Living with type 1 diabetes for over 33 years, I’ve experienced firsthand the daily highs and lows—both physically and emotionally. I wanted to transform that experience into something meaningful for others, especially for those newly diagnosed. My goal was to create tools that are not only educational but also empowering, comforting, and even entertaining. Managing type 1 diabetes can feel overwhelming, and I felt strongly about building something that helps children and families develop confidence, resilience, and a positive foundation as they navigate this lifelong condition.
What are your proudest achievements so far?
My proudest achievement has been turning an idea into a tangible, meaningful product—bringing both an app and a plushie to life. More than three decades after being diagnosed at UC Irvine, I had the opportunity to reconnect with the University of California, Irvine through their Computer Science Capstone Program. Watching students bring my vision to life was incredibly full circle. They developed three interactive games, reimagined my website with a vibrant new design, and helped expand the platform’s features in ways I had only dreamed of. Having once relied on UC Irvine Health during one of the most critical moments of my life, it was deeply meaningful to return and collaborate on something that now helps others. Working alongside such passionate and talented students—and celebrating each milestone together—has been an experience I will never forget.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Never give up on your vision. Stay focused on your mission and don’t let doubt—whether from others or yourself—hold you back. Take the time to create a clear plan and commit to it with consistency and intention. It’s also important to understand the foundational steps early on—such as choosing the right business structure (LLC, corporation, or nonprofit) and considering trademark protection. Most importantly, believe in what you are building and take pride in the process. Passion and persistence will carry you further than anything else.
Please share a memory or thought about your alma mater:
It’s difficult to choose just one memory from my time at UC Irvine. What stands out most is the sense of community—being surrounded by diverse, inspiring individuals and having the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore new ideas. I loved the balance of academics and connection; all set in the beauty of Orange County. Living near Newport Beach and experiencing that chapter of life in such a vibrant and supportive environment made it truly special. LMU was where I attended graduate school in the evenings, and it was such a meaningful experience. I met incredible colleagues who continually motivated and inspired me. What I appreciated most were the professors—they were truly impactful. I especially valued the time they spent observing me in my elementary school classroom and guiding me on my journey to becoming a teacher. Their support is something I will always remember.
