Meet USC alum: Christy Moody, Founder Soleil Sunwear

Tell us about your company:
Soleil Sunwear is a line of super stylish and comfortable sun protective apparel and accessories for women. Everything is designed and made in Los Angeles.
What inspired you to start your business?
Even though I had been a faithful sunscreen wearer for decades I started seeing changes in my skin in my 40s and knew that sunscreen wasn’t enough. I couldn’t find the coverage, comfort, or style that I was seeking in UPF clothing so I made my own!
What are your proudest achievements so far?
I am very proud that many of my customers are raving fans and repeat buyers. I’m also proud that Soleil Sunwear has been featured on Carbon38, at Veronica Beard, and on Dr. Samantha Ellis’ YouTube channel.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs:
1. Unless you have strong capital backing, do not quit your day job. It takes time to find the customers you need to build a lucrative business.
2. Start small and iterate. It’s okay to go slowly.
3. Ask for help and advice from successful people in your industry.
Please share a memory or thought about your alma mater:
Even though I studied entrepreneurship as an MBA student I never dreamed I would start a product-based business. USC has proven to be so supportive of my entrepreneurial journey even twenty years after I completed my degree program.
